With focused preparation, he cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination on his first attempt, securing an impressive Rank of 129 in the 2013 batch. This remarkable achievement catapulted him into the Indian Police Service (IPS), serving his home cadre of Tamil Nadu.

Throughout his 14-year career, including a notable stint in Manipur, Selvanagarathinam has been committed to making a difference in law enforcement. His current role as Superintendent of Police/Deputy Director in Chennai involves various responsibilities, from leading investigations to enhancing community safety.

However, one of his most cherished assignments has been his tenure at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy (TNPA). As the officer in charge of training, he has trained over 1,400 Sub-Inspectors (SIs), 45 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) trainees, and two batches of IPS trainees from the Tamil Nadu cadre. In addition, he has contributed to the training of nearly 5,000 officers from various departments through in-service courses.

This role, according to him, is one of the most fulfilling experiences in his career. He is particularly proud of his contribution to improving training processes and preparing the next generation of police officers. As a motivational speaker and trainer, his guidance has left a lasting impact on countless officers, helping them navigate the challenges of law enforcement with skill and resilience.
