Paban Kumar Borthakur began his early education at Kamakhya LP School. In 1979, he appeared for the HSLC examination from Kaliabar Higher Secondary School, securing the third position with the highest marks in mathematics. He later attended St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, where he graduated with Honours in Physics (1982-1985), earning a gold medal.

He also secured a 1st class 3rd position in Gauhati University while pursuing his Master’s degree in Physics. Paban Kumar Borthakur received the “Best Student in the St. Stephen’s College Centenary Award” and a scholarship from the Oxford-Cambridge Society. Additionally, he holds an M.A. in English from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi.
